A MESSAGE FROM RARE BIRDS FOUNDER AND CEO, JO BURSTON:
Reflecting on the past year fills me with a deep sense of pride and purpose. At Rare Birds, we are not only building businesses — we are advancing economic equality and reshaping the face of leadership in Australia.
In 2024, our work empowered thousands of women across the country — from emerging leaders in corporate environments to small business owners in regional communities and migrant founders launching startups. Through our three pillars of mentoring, education and community, we’ve delivered real results: increased business confidence, stronger networks, financial growth, and above all, a sense of belonging and belief in what’s possible.
This success is underpinned by the incredible generosity of our mentors. Over 1,200 volunteers — many of whom are senior executives and industry experts — contributed more than 9,700 hours of personalised support in 2024 alone, equating to over $1.4 million in value. These mentors are the backbone of our programs, offering their wisdom, experience and care to those navigating the challenges of business and leadership.
Together, we are building a strong and resilient economy that leaves no one behind. I invite you to read this report and celebrate the extraordinary stories and outcomes made possible by our community — and be reminded that yes, she can.
With gratitude,
Jo Burston
